Number: UNU-INWEH/Intern.2013.01 Application deadline: 2013, ongoing recruitment until filled Responsibilities: Provide assistance to the Drylands Programme under the Economics of Land Degradation (ELD) Initiative (http://eld-initiative.org/) by:
reviewing current academic and non-academic literature
undertaking desk-based research on economic valuation and/or political economy analysis and/or transaction costs in collaboration with experts in other countries
conducting the writing of a collaborative research report for publication
assisting in all necessary academic and/or administrative tasks as needs arise Qualifications and Requirements: Background in economics or political sciences, and natural resource management (preferably drylands). Essential Skills & Attributes:
Proven record of excellent writing and presentation skills
Excellent command of English
Proven record of quantitative and qualitative analysis
Proven record of computer proficiency
A willingness to learn new methods and skills is a must
Proven record of multi-disciplinary experience is desirable Expected outputs:
Improved knowledge of the field of research and actors
Internship research report of excellent academic level
Academic publication if results and time allow Teaching/learning objectives:
Acquire knowledge and gain hands-on experience of inter-disciplinary work
Improved autonomy for conduction of research projects
Understanding of the project work and related activities of UNU and the UN System
Gain work experience within UN international working environment Duration: The successful candidate will be based at UNU-INWEH in Hamilton on a full-time basis (40 hours/week) for a contractual period ranging between 3-6 months.
