The Position
The Aga Khan Museum is scheduled to open its doors in Toronto, Canada in 2014. The Museum is devoted to the arts of Islamic civilisations in all their historic and geographic diversity. The Museum will be dedicated to the acquisition, preservation and display of artefacts - from various periods and geographies - relating to the artistic, cultural, intellectual, and religious heritage of the Islamic world. The Museum collection contains some of the most celebrated Islamic art in the world with more than one thousand works of art spanning over one thousand years of history.

The Head of Development is responsible for the planning and execution of all activities related to the museum's fundraising and development. S/he will oversee the management and cultivation of donors, the identification and submission of grant applications to government agencies and foundations, the planning of donor events, the creation and maintenance of a museum membership program, the development of an endowment campaign, and the raising of funds against operation, programmatic and capital expenses.

S/he will provide strategic leadership for all fundraising activities on behalf of the museum.
Provide strategic direction for the development of a fundraising strategy.

Recruit, manage and direct the four person Development team.

Report on fundraising progress and fundraising activities to the Director and the Board.

Manage the creation and set the agendas of fundraising advisory committees.

Identify potential funders, initiate contact and conduct presentations.

Lead all revenue generation activities in the following areas; individual donors, membership programs, endowment giving, grants and sponsorships.

The Requirements
The ideal candidate will have the following profile:
Education
An undergraduate university degree ideally in arts, marketing or communications.

CFRE designation preferred.

Qualifications
A minimum of 7 years' experience at planning and executing major fundraising and special events at a senior level preferably in the not-for-profit sector.

Proven experience in sponsorship, service delivery and marketing in the private sector.

Experience with government and foundation granting procedures and individual giving and membership campaigns is a must.

Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to develop effective partnerships as well as to persuade and negotiate.

Excellent writing and presentation skills.
Proven ability to lead and manage staff.
Experience working with a fundraising database, preferably Raisers Edge.
Experience in an arts organization would be an asset.
