About the Job:
FINCA is seeking a Project Associate to support the development manager in the oversight of a large-scale project in Sub-Saharan Africa - with a focus in Malawi, Tanzania, and Zambia - encompassing activities related to alternative delivery channels, staff capacity building, and social performance management. S/he will report to the development manager, based in Canada, while also working closely with the project manager based in Uganda. The position is based in Montreal.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate project meetings, conference calls, and other communications, both internal and external, including monthly update calls and high-level project management and advisory committees meetings;
- Assist project manager in ensuring follow-up and follow-through on action items from project management meetings;
- Ensure project management documentation - schedules, timelines, work plans, reports, summaries etc. – is updated, recorded and reported, as needed;
- Maintain the schedule of external deliverables and keep the project manager informed on upcoming deadlines;
- Gather information and data from the Project Manager and the project team, including from the monthly status reports, and drafts semi-annual narrative reports for submission to the donor;
- Coordinate the preparation of supporting documents to request funding tranches/drawdowns, facilitating input from the project team, and finance/accounting departments;
- Provide support to document and disseminate key lessons learned and findings;
- Prepare project briefs, reports, and other information for PR and marketing purposes;
- Coordinate visits of internal and external visitors to the project;
- Conduct other administrative and program tasks to support the development manager, as needed;
- Possible travel, about 15%.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in International Affairs, International Development, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience;
- At least 2 - 5 years of relevant work experience;
- Knowledge of international development. Familiarity with microfinance preferred;
- Experience working with donor-funded international development projects a plus.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills;
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize tasks;
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
- Ability to work proactively and take initiative;
- Fluency in English required. Ability to work in French a plus.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office. Ability to generate work plans, schedules and budgets using Excel. Ability to create presentations using PowerPoint.
