We have an exciting new requirement for a Senior Field Engineer based in Houston USA; your role will be to lead deployment teams in preparation and installation of the OptaSense Fiber Optic Distributed Acoustic Sensor system. You will have the ability to plan, manage and execute installations with minimal support, be able to present technical information in a client focussed way and have experience of problem solving computing, network and leading technology based technical installations.
Above all, you will need to be able to work flexibly as this role will require frequent deployments, sometimes at short notice. You will be someone that works tenaciously to solve problems, can work under pressure, has excellent planning and communication skills and has a strong customer focused approach. This position requires heavy travel globally.
Primary Position Purpose
To lead deployment teams and achieve client satisfaction in system preparation and installatons for both permanent and temporary purposes of the OptaSense Fiber Optic Distributed Acoustic Sensing System.
Principal Accountabilities
- To plan and organize logistics, system and equipment for system installations.
- The production of build and deployment drawing packs to company standards and the ensuing build and demonstration of the system at Factory Acceptance Test.
- To frequently lead and supervise deployment teams (comprising both internal and external personnel) on global assignments achieving successful completion of System/Site Acceptance Test (permanent system) / System Test (demonstration)
- To produce high quality reports (video / media rich documentation / presentations) of field trials / system installations
- To assist with prospect conversion and act as field sales force and primary OptaSense point of contact to clients during installations, exhibitions, conferences
- To deliver to the client technical training on the use of the system to end users, administrators and maintainers
- To assist in the bidding process by producing first class technical content of proposals
- To resolve appointed client problems and queries via the OptaSense client ticketing system
- To liaise with product development team to provide customer and operational feedback on software features, functionality and suggested improvements
- To ensure all works are carried out within the bounds of tight Health & Safety practices expected within the Oil & Gas Community.
- The development and upkeep of system documentation such as manuals, procedures, guides, system specifications etc
Education and Experience
Succesful candidates will have the following qualifications:
Physics or relevant Engineering degree
Experience in the oil and gas industry

- Highly computer literate - adaptable to a range of applications - bespoke GIS based software, Viso/CAD computer management, multimedia as well as office applications
Preferred Skills
- Single Mode fiber optic fusion splicing
- Ability to design and build distributed computer networks
- Knowledge of SDH protocols for fiber based data transmission
- Technical writing (bid content, technical documents, manuals etc)
- Thorough understanding of the Physics of acoustics and fiber optics
