Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel Ltd. is offering the right candidate an opportunity to join our Firm, reporting directly to the Head of Investment Analytics.  We are looking for a motivated individual who is familiar with the Canadian Investment environment and who is assertive, project driven, detail oriented, a problem solver, and can work with deadlines.  The successful candidate will be expected to investigate, explore and implement the new business initiatives required to take our Firm forward. This role will require the Candidate to work side by side with the portfolio managers, traders, compliance manager, research analysts and operational staff. The Candidate will be involved in product evaluation, project planning, business analysis, user training, system integration, tactical development and fixed income analytics.

Job Description:

Business Analysis


  •     Work directly with vendor and internal staff to scope, gather, review, create and implement business and functional requirements for Front, Middle and Back Office Systems
  •     Work in conjunction with management, internal staff and vendor to set and manage expectations around project timelines.  Be responsible for managing and communicating issues to management
  •     Work hands on and alongside SMEs to configure and test systems to meet certain business requirements
  •     Develop technical and functional test plans and scripts to validate the successful design, development and implementation of system deliverables and obtain user sign-off
  •     Responsible for training users on use of the systems, new functionalities and role out periodic training upgrades
  •     Collaborate to investigate and resolve production problems
  •     Work with vendors to manage change requests, budgets and timelines
  •     Coordinate project activities with investment, technical, operational and administration groups;  collect and communicate information among various working groups and propose and implement technical solutions
  •     Assist in coordination and be involved in meetings to brain storm new ideas for system enhancements
  •     Gathering information and specifications to make enhancements to core portfolio management, order management system and unit holders systems
  •     Investigate and explore new business applications to be used as tools for desktop users

Project Management (Non-IT and IT related)
  •     Create a project management infrastructure (PMO) to allow projects to be developed, implemented, tested and rolled out
  •     Adhere to a defined project management methodology, ensure the work of the project, including requirements and deliverables are clearly defined
  •     Provide input into and monitor project deliverables within budget and schedule
  •     Monitor, tract and resolve project issues and risk
  •     Manage daily activities, issue resolution and communication across project execution teams in order to deliver projects on-time and on-budget

System Support
  •     Monitor status and functionality of systems and applications; investigate, identify and resolve user and application problems in a timely manner
  •     Test new software versions for business levels and functionality; troubleshoot various application systems
  •     Assist and support the new product development as they relate to data requirements and analytics

Job Qualifications:

  •     Have minimum of 5 – 10 years of business analyst and project management experience is required
  •     A degree in Computer science required
  •     Have minimum 5 – 10 years of experience dealing with vendors is required
  •     A strong sense of responsibility and ability to take a project through to its completion
  •     Strong organizational, communication and problem solving skills
  •     Strong influencing and negotiation skills
  •     Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills required including proven experience in troubleshooting effectively in a fast-pace, time-sensitive environment
  •     Experience in the financial services sector and working with market data with a background in equities, commodities, fixed income and options is a distinct advantage
  •     Ability to work well and communicate effectively within a team and with all departments of the Firm
  •     Excellent analytical skills and ability to  think “outside of the box”
  •     Familiarity with Latent Zero (Trading and Portfolio Management) and Advent APX (Portfolio Accounting), is a plus
  •     Strong working knowledge of SQL Server, Excel,  Word, Bloomberg
  •     Some developer/scripting experience including strong knowledge of Windows/.Net, C#,  SSRS/SSIS, Perl
